Just another Edublogs.org weblog
O-11 has been busy this year. The first marking period is behind us and we are almost halfway through the 2nd marking period!
In science we are studying the structures of life. We have been examining seeds and plants. We will soon have crayfish to watch and learn about.
In math we are learning how to multiply two digit numbers and dividing. Students should have their times tables memorized up to 12×12.
Our reading stories are teaching us how to identify the author’s purpose and perspective. While in writing we are learning about great beginnings and descriptive writing.
Here are some important dates to remember:
Oct. 29th parent math night, Oct. 30th “play fit” assembly, Nov. 11th no school, Nov. 12th picture make up day, Nov. 13th end of the 2nd marking period, Nov. 17th-20th conferences. Nov. 24th story book character day, Nov. 25th-27th no school.
The first week of school is behind us and O-11 is quickly learning the routines of our classroom. We had a great first week getting to know each other. We played name games to learn each others names and made a list of the things we have in common with all the other kids in the class. We learned about Ms. Kennedy’s ABC’s (Always Be Careful, Caring, Considerate, and Courteous) and we are learning how to use them to make new friendships.
We have started our first math unit on multiplication. And we are currently working with a partner to make a poster for all the factors we find for 2 different numbers.
In reading we began our first story The Hot and Cold Summer which is about friends who have a pizza eating contest. We are spending this week learning about Character Traits, and Story Structure. We are also learning about the reading centers and the expectations Ms. Kennedy has for reading groups.
Our First Science Unit will be Sky Watchers. We will learn about the sun and it’s rotation and how it affects life on earth. We will also learn about the other planets and our first science project will be assigned.
Fourth grade is off to a great start.
